FINALLY! My second trip to Greenmount Cemetery in the Juniata/Feltonville area of the city was a success. Out of three attempts to visit my family members' graves and much time spent staring at a map, I arrived at the Beech gravesite. The first attempt I was unprepared and did not bring my map, plot numbers, section, deed, etc. The second attempt the traffic and road blocks were unbelievable but low and behold I finally achieved my goal...
Greenmount Cemetery opened in 1875 so it is not very old and it is still an active burial ground to this day. There is much diversity between the ethnicities of those who are buried at Greenmount but much of the earlier graves seem to be German or Irish surnames.
An interesting thing I noticed is that out of any cemetery I have ever been to...this cemetery has the MOST Mason's and Masonic symbolry on their graves. I am not sure if many masons lived in similar geographic regions or if they chose to be buried together for whatever reason but the Free Mason symbol was almost endless at the foremost and older part of the cemetery.
